La Union, Philippines – The 2024 WSL World Junior Championships presented by TPB Philippines crowned two first-time champions at Monaliza Point and Urbiztondo Beach, with Bronson Meydi (INA) and Luana Silva (BRA) etching their names in surfing history.

Meydi Claims Indonesia’s First-Ever WSL Title

Bronson Meydi delivered a jaw-dropping performance in the Final against Australia’s Winter Vincent, sealing his victory with a perfect 10-point ride—two full-rotation air-reverses—and an event-high 18.80 heat total. The Indonesian phenom, who dominated all three qualifying events this season, became the first surfer from his nation to win any WSL World Title. “This feels so amazing,” Meydi said. “To do this for Indonesia feels special. The Philippines has been incredible, and this week just got a whole lot more memorable.” Vincent, the event’s standout until the Final, posted a near-perfect 17.84 heat total but fell just short. “Congrats to Bronson—his surfing was on another level,” he acknowledged.

Silva’s Emotional Triumph

In the women’s division, Luana Silva (BRA) edged out Japan’s Kana Nakashio in a nail-biting Final. Trailing most of the heat, Silva snatched victory in the final seconds with two critical re-entries, scoring a 12.23 total. The win marked Brazil’s first women’s junior title and held deep personal significance for Silva, who dedicated it to a late childhood friend. “I think she sent me that last wave,” Silva said tearfully. “This is for her.” Nakashio, a previous QS winner in La Union, praised Silva’s grit: “She’s an amazing surfer—I’m stoked to share this Final with her.”
