Surf’s Up in the Philippines: Double Dose of Action Kicks Off 2024 Season

Get ready for epic waves and rising stars! The World Surf League Asia Pacific is heating things up by launching the 2024 season with not one, but two back-to-back events in the Philippines.

First up: the La Union International Pro, returning to Urbiztondo Beach from January 22nd to 28th. Prepare for high-performance right-handers and fierce competition as surfers battle for points on the Qualifying Series (QS) 3000 and Longboard Qualifying Series (LQS).

But wait, there’s more! Just after La Union wraps up, get ready for the inaugural Baler International Pro at Sabang Beach from February 1st to 7th. This first-ever WSL event promises adrenaline-pumping beach-break action with tubes, big turns, and even bigger airs.

WSL APAC Tour Manager Ty Sorati is stoked about the double dose of Filipino fun: “We’re thrilled to be back in the Philippines, showcasing amazing waves and incredible talent. Bringing a new event to Baler reflects our strong partnership with the United Philippine Surfing Association (UPSA).”

Local excitement is bubbling over, with Ian Saguan, President of La Union Surf Club and UPSA National Coach, saying: “Having a world-class event like this right here boosts our surfing scene and inspires young surfers to chase their dreams.”

Luke Landrigan, another UPSA National Coach, echoes the sentiment: “WSL events help fuel our athletes’ ambitions. We’re stoked to learn from WSL and keep this partnership thriving for years to come.”

So, mark your calendars and grab your boards! The Philippines is about to witness the future of surfing unfold, one epic wave at a time.
