The 2024 ISA World Longboard Championship in El Salvador has been a week of thrilling competition, showcasing the world’s best longboarders riding the waves of El Sunzal. The event, which began on April 19th and culminates on May 12th, has seen a series of impressive performances, including strong showings from Asian surfers.

While France has been a force to be reckoned with, with Edouard Delpero securing a convincing win in Men’s Round 1 and teammate Antoine Delpero displaying exceptional skill, Asia has also had its share of the spotlight.

On the women’s side, Filipina surfer Daisy Valdez has garnered significant local support with her graceful style and technical prowess. A recent heat saw Valdez go head-to-head with Coral Bia of Mexico and Khrisa Kop Pha of Hawaii, highlighting the global nature of the competition.

Japan’s contingent has impressed as well. Hiroto Sato, on the men’s side, has impressed with his smooth flow and commitment to the wave, keeping him in contention. It’s worth noting that Asian surfers, including the Japanese team, have displayed a strong understanding of the El Sunzal conditions, adapting their strategies to the unique breaks.

The competition hasn’t been without its surprises. Established surfers like Samuel Dunton of Australia and Zen Wallis of New Zealand faced setbacks in the early rounds. These upsets demonstrate the high level of competition and the depth of talent on display, including the rising stars from Asia.
